The workshop was designed to reunite environmental focal points from aviation authorities, relevant organisations, and the EU & South Asia aviation industry to share information and discuss about current and future scalability of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in South Asia and, in particular, in India.
 
The workshop included a visit to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–Indian Institute of Petroleum (CSIR–IIP) facilities in Dehradun, and presentations to cover the following topics:
 
Understanding what SAF is and its Value Chain
 

• What is SAF? What are the approved conversion pathways?

• Feedstock, Production, Blending, Certification, and downstream logistics.

• Production and Supply – an EU perspective.

What makes an aviation fuel sustainable?
 

• An overview of the Sustainability Criteria for SAF.

• Understanding the Life Cycle Emissions of SAF and its Certification.

• SAF in Market Based Measures – EU ETS, UK ETS and CORSIA and the experience of airlines.

SAF Economics and Policies
 

• Existing SAF Production, Capacity and Supply.

• Future scalability of SAF – the Outlook and challenges on Supply and Demand.

• SAF Policies in the EU - RefuelEU Aviation/State Mandates.

• India Initiatives and Perspectives: Current SAF production and supply in India/Potential Policies
   

This session is intended for relevant representatives of civil aviation authorities and key stakeholders in South Asia with potential direct involvement in research and the value chain of SAF, including feedstock, production, transport, storage, quality and sustainability assurance, and supply, up to the end use in the aircraft.
