Aviation Partnership Project II
Strengthening the partnership in aviation between the EU and South Asia

This workshop aims to enhance participants' understanding of air navigation planning, encourage collaboration, and contribute to the development of effective strategies for the South Asian region.

The EU-SA APP II project is hosting a comprehensive air navigation regional workshop in the Maldives from 18 to 21 September 2023.

​

The workshop is designed to enhance participants' understanding of air navigation planning, encourage collaboration, and contribute to the development of effective strategies for the South Asian region. It aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants from various countries and organisations.

​

Target participants include members from the Civil Aviation Authorities in South Asia and relevant Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).

The topics that will be covered are the following:

• Day 1 (18 September 2023): The first day covers essential topics such as an overview of the ICAO Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP), regional guidance for planning, and an introduction to the ICAO Basic Building Blocks (BBBs) and Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBU) Framework.

 

• Day 2 (19 September 2023): The second day delves into European air navigation planning experiences, including discussions on the Single European Sky policy, the SESAR Programme, and the European ATM Master Plan. Additionally, the ASEAN ANS Master Plan is introduced. The day concludes with insights from a South Asian state representative regarding their national air navigation planning.

 

• Day 3 (20 September 2023): The focus shifts to exploring the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders in air navigation planning, contextualising traffic forecasting, conducting SWOT analyses, and setting objectives. Practical exercises and brainstorming sessions engage participants in applying these concepts to their respective regions.

 

• Day 4 (21 September 2023): The final day emphasises key performance indicators (KPIs), data management, and the selection of optimal solutions. Participants engage in exercises to identify relevant KPIs and analyse potential solutions. The workshop concludes with discussions on common themes for regional focus and integration into the South Asian ANS Master Plan.

Throughout the four-day event, representatives from those organisations will engage in focused discussions, practical exercises, and brainstorming sessions led by EU-SA APP II ATM/ANS experts.
